International data governance - Pathways to progress
In May 2023, the United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination endorsed International Data Governance – Pathways to Progress, developed through the High-level Committee on Programmes (HLCP) which approved the paper at its 45th session in March 2023.
International Data Governance – Pathways to Progress and its addenda were developed by the HLCP Working Group on International Data Governance. The Working Group is co-led by the United Nations Office of Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the World Health Organization (WHO) and consists of members of the Committee of Chief Statisticians of the United Nations System, policy staff and experts in data and digital technologies. This paper articulates a vision for the governance of data at the international level and its annexes can serve as an analytical resource to support Member States’ efforts.
