The Supply Chain Network (SCN) was established in 2025 when the former Procurement Network was reconfigured to reflect the UN system’s broader end-to-end supply chain needs. While procurement remains a key focus area, the purpose of the Network is to promote innovation, efficiency, agility, resilience, and sustainability across UN supply chains as a key strategic programme enabler.
As of November 2025, representatives from 42 organisations are members of the Supply Chain Network. These organisations are typically organisations are represented by the Director, Chief, or Head of Supply Chain, or by an equivalent functions. Together, these representatives oversee the UN system’s end-to-end supply chain and procurement operations. In 2024, the total procurement volume of UN organisations exceeded USD 25 billion.
The Network’s programme of work furthers the efficiency and effectiveness of the end-to-end supply chain function within the UN system, through inter alia, enhanced inter-agency coordination on global, regional and local supply chain management, collaborative supply chain arrangements, simplification and harmonization of supply chain practices, and by fostering professionalism amongst staff that are responsible for supply chain functions. It also promotes supply chain opportunities to potential suppliers from developing countries, as well as those from countries with economies in transition, and supports where possible capacity development for supply chain management in those countries where the UN organisations serve.
The Supply Chain Network is responsible for the UN Global Marketplace (UNGM at www.ungm.org), the procurement portal of the UN System, which brings together UN procurement personnel and a large global supplier community.
